Question 1

Are white strawberries less sweet than red ones?

Accepted Answer

Not at all — white strawberries like Awayuki are often sweeter because they lack the red pigment (anthocyanin) that contributes tartness in many red varieties. Their flavor is honeyed and low in acid.

Question 2

Why are the berries white even when ripe?

Accepted Answer

Awayuki is a naturally white-fruited cultivar. Ripe berries are creamy white with red seeds. Do not wait for them to turn red; they will become mushy. Look for the seed color change and slight softening.

Question 3

Do I need to chill the seeds before sowing?

Accepted Answer

Yes — for improved germination, cold-stratify seeds in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks before starting. This mimics winter dormancy and breaks seed dormancy naturally.
